Center Stage Theatre Building Small Ensemble for Powerful Play, Auditions Aug. 14 & 15

Center Stage Theatre is hosting auditions for Doubt: A Parable written by John Patrick Shanley at Midland Center for the Arts for performances on October 12 - 15. The Pulitzer Prize®  and Tony Award®-winning play will be directed locally by Elaine DiFalco Daugherty.

The Center is seeking adult actors ages 18 and up to fill the four roles in this thought-provoking play. Auditions will happen Monday, August 14 from 6 – 9 PM and Tuesday, August 15 from 6 – 7 PM. “It is scene work at its best – no frills, no bells, and whistles,” says Director Elaine DiFalco Daugherty. “Four characters grapple with conflict, power dynamics, and the consequences of their actions. If you are an actor who loves a gritty challenge, I hope to see you at auditions.”

The play was adapted into an Academy Award®-winning film starring Meryl Streep, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Amy Adams, and Viola Davis. Set in 1964, Doubt: A Parable examines truth and consequences in a provocative and gripping story with suspicion and scandal. When Sister Aloysius, a rigid Bronx school principal, accuses a progressive and engaging priest, Father Flynn, of having inappropriate relations with a student, she inadvertently raises questions that force her to confront the foundation of her own moral certainty. Blunt yet subtle, manipulative yet full of empathy, Doubt: A Parable is a brilliant and beautifully balanced drama that leaves audiences questioning the truth.

The production will run for five performances in the Little Theater at Midland Center for the Arts on October 12 - 15. All participants in the production will be required to be fully vaccinated. Rehearsals begin Sunday, August 20, and will occur three to four times per week leading up to performances.
