MIDLAND, MI, September 18, 2024 – Midland Center’s Studio School is presenting a follow-up to their 2023 Build-A-Bowl event with Empty Bowls. The project will take place on Saturday, November 2, 2024, with two sessions available for guests: 12 - 2 PM and 2 - 4 PM.

Empty Bowls is a global grassroots movement where local artists and craftspeople create handmade bowls, sold alongside a simple meal, to raise money for food-related charities. Attendees will receive a handcrafted bowl made by local artists and enjoy a meal of soup, bread, and dessert, courtesy of local restaurants. Proceeds from the event will support the Midland County Food Assistance Network.

Studio School has collaborated with local partners, including Creative 360, Space Studios, Windover High School, and Studio 23, to craft the one-of-a-kind bowls available for this event. So far, restaurants like Midland Country Club, Aster, One Eighteen, Café Zinc, Emily Mai’s Pho & More, Proper Taco, and Windover High School/The ReGrow Together Program have committed to providing food for this charitable cause.

“As a potter myself, this is an event I’ve participated in with other communities, and it’s close to my heart. It’s been amazing to see so many community partners—from artists, to corporations, to chefs—come together and say, 'We want to end food scarcity in our area,'” said Beth Nova, Fine Arts Program Supervisor at Midland Center. “We hope to make this an annual event that will continue to spread awareness and serve our community. I see it as our duty at the Center to facilitate these conversations, and what better way to do it than with art!”

Empty Bowls is sponsored by Michigan Sugar, Corteva Agriscience, and Health Advantage Credit Union. Tickets are $30 and include a meal of soup, bread, and desserts, as well as one handmade bowl to take home. Tickets are available now and can be purchased online at www.midlandcenter.org/emptybowls, by calling (989) 631-8250, or by visiting the box office at 1801 W. St. Andrews Rd., Midland.
