MIDLAND, MI
, April 18, 2025 – Midland County Historical Society at Midland Center for the Arts has released the Winter/Spring 2025 issue of The Midland Log. First published in 1970, the journal was refreshed in 2023 with more visuals and expanded endnotes for deeper exploration.

This issue features a new article by archivist and historian Tawny Ryan Nelb: A Local Stop on the Road to Prohibition: Midland City’s ‘Dry’ Years, 1908–1967. The piece dives into Midland’s nearly 60-year history as a “dry” city, long before Prohibition began nationally in 1920 and lasting well beyond its repeal in 1933. Drawing from local archives and newspaper records, Nelb presents a well-researched narrative alongside nearly 100 historical images, including several from private collections.

Copies are free for members of Midland County Historical Society and the Alden B. Dow Museum, and available to the public for $8 at the Center’s Ticket Office.
